Individual

James Eetoolook has been a leader all his adult life who has demonstrated leadership, not just in exploration and mining, but for Nunavut in general. James is a strong advocate for the exploration and mining industry, recognizing it as one of the important factors for the future on Nunavut and as a way of achieving the goals for Inuit self-reliance, social, and cultural well-being embodied in the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement. Under his leadership, NTI has developed mining, uranium, and reclamation policies which balance the goals and aspirations of Inuit through cooperation and partnership with industry and government.  During his tenure, NTI has also partnered with industry in developing innovative agreements that give Inuit the ability to be direct participants and owners of mining projects and not just passive owners of minerals. James’s dedication to Inuit and his belief in the future of our territory, and the part exploration and mining will play in it, has made a difference.
